Celebrating AVMA Unsung Hero Award Recipient Bernadette Perez
Veritas Veterinary Partners is proud to celebrate Bernadette Perez of Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin (PESCM) for being named one of nine recipients of the American Veterinary Medical Association's (AVMA) 2026 Unsung Heroes Award. The award recognizes veterinary professionals who are not veterinarians and whose contributions often happen behind the scenes, but make a lasting impact on patients, clients and colleagues.
As the hospital coordinator at PESCM, Bernadette plays an essential role in supporting hospital operations and team success. After joining the hospital as a client service representative, she quickly distinguished herself through her compassion, professionalism, attention to detail and commitment to helping clients during difficult moments.
Today, Bernadette oversees the hospital's practice information management system, coordinates onboarding for new veterinarians and team members and manages internal and external communications initiatives. She is also known for her ability to solve problems, support her colleagues and help create a positive workplace culture.
According to PESCM Hospital Director Michelle Longmire, Bernadette has taken the lead in developing programs that foster inclusion, promote mental health awareness, celebrate diversity and strengthen connections across departments. She actively seeks opportunities to support professional growth while encouraging feedback and collaboration among teammates.
This national recognition reflects the impact Bernadette has on the PESCM team and the values that drive exceptional veterinary care every day. Her dedication to supporting both people and pets exemplifies the spirit of the Unsung Heroes Award and the culture we strive to build across Veritas Veterinary Partners hospitals.
