Creating a Culture of Connection at VSS/AVSG

At Veterinary Surgical Specialists (VSS) and AVSG Internal Medicine, Emergency and Critical Care (AVSG), creating a strong team is just as important as the care provided to patients. That’s why teammates are actively building new ways to foster connection, engagement and a greater sense of belonging.

One of those efforts is their Engagement Committee. Teammates across roles – from clinicians and technicians to leadership – are coming together to help shape a more collaborative and inclusive workplace. The committee creates space for ideas beyond day-to-day responsibilities, like organizing beach cleanups and group hikes. This work is still evolving, and that’s part of the point.

Through ongoing conversations and a willingness to listen, the team is working toward an environment where everyone feels seen. It’s an intentional effort grounded in a simple belief: when teammates feel connected to each other, it strengthens everything they do.
